FAQ - Neodymium

It can be confusing looking through lists with hundred of articles without understanding the terms, which also play a big role.
Below you can see list with how we give the most important attributes.

The Magnet Calcylator is a handy tool to build your own magnet and see all the features, like for example force and Bz (gauss).
NOTE: Theoretical values, may vary from real world results.

1. Dimensions

Block: Length x Width x Thickness. A 8x7x6mm block is 8mm long, 7mm wide and 6mm thick.

Cylinder: Diameter x Thickness. A 4x2mm cylinder is 4mm in diameter and 2mm thick.

Ring: Outer diameter x Inner diameter x Thickness. A 10x5x4mm ring is, 10mm in outer diameter, 5mm hole and 4mm thick.

2. Magnetization

By default, we magnetize our permanent magnets axially (1), through the thickness.
There are also diametrically magnetized magnets (2). Which magnetization direction the article has is given in the attributes
This applies to cylinders and rings. Block magnets are always magnetized through the thickness.

3. Energy grade (N36, N45...)

The energy grade describes the flow denisty of the neodymiummaterial. The higher the N degree, the stronger the magnet.
But note that there is only a few precent differ in strength between the highest and lowest N grades.

For every grade that we can offer, see this chart: Materialspec

4. Temperature grade (H, SH...)

What the maximum working temperature is. Without letter (default) = 80°C
H = 120°C, SH = 150°C, UH = 180°C, EH = 200°C

Example: N36H = N36 is energy grade & H is temperature grade.

5. Surface treatment

NdFeB magnets easily exidize. Therefore, the magnets are always delivered galvanically surface-treated. Our our default
coatings are nickel or zink. If you need to use the magnet in humid conditions, epoxy treatment is to recommend.
There is also more coatings, for example rilsan and tin.

6. Strength

Use our magnet calculator for theoretical force on cylinders, blocks and rings for multiple materials.
